Jobs in Asia are on the rise

Job ads in Asia shot up by 72.3 per cent from July 1 to August 31 compared t o the same period last year and up 12.7 per cent when compared to Q2 in 2010.

The Asia Job Index compiled by Robert Walters looked at the number of ads published on job boards and in newspapers from July 1 to August 31 this year in China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan.  

Japan’s job ads were up 108.1 per cent compared to Compared to Q3 2009 and China up 74.6 per cent

Compared to Q2 2010, numbers of job advertisements in Q3 have increased in all regions: Japan is the highest, up 27.8 per cent, jobs in China by 12.5 per cent, Singapore by 5.2 per cent and Hong Kong up 3.8 per cent.

Clerical and administrative jobs were up across the region while financial services, IT and engineering saw the largest job growth in Japan.

Robert Walters claims employer confidence is higher “than at any time since the start of the global downturn” and that “severe” shortages of skills have started to appear particular in financial services, which is pushing up salaries.

Bilingual candidates and those with specialist product skills and qualifications are in highest demand and are commanding the highest salaries. The contract market is also strong.
