Technology a big recruitment issue in 2012
Technology will be among the biggest recruitment issues for 2012, connecting people with jobs more quickly but not necessarily correctly.
Recruitment firm Hays reveals the skills shortage is expected to continue to create headaches for employers, and experienced trade and professional workers for the resources and energy sectors will remain among the most sought-after staff.
But integration of mobile technology into the workplace, providing information to workers about current and potential employers, and allowing recruiters to increasingly do online background checks on social media, also will be key to recruitment.
Regional director Nick Murphy says taking the time to get to know someone face-to-face is crucial to identifying who is right to fill a vacancy.
“As employers incorporate social media checks into their recruitment process, some are neglecting to thoroughly background check the information they find and some are even making hiring decisions based on this unauthenticated content,” he says.
He says there is a growing appetite among workers for information that easily merges with mobile technology.
A culture of recognition to reward proven performers through such measures as bonus incentives or training and development for achievement will also be an important issue next year.
