Mature-age entry to university
Sample Cover Letter - IV
If you didn’t get the marks at school to go straight to university but have been in the workforce for a number of years you will most likely qualify for mature-age entry.
At the University of Sydney, for instance, if you are 21 by March 1, 2009, and have not attempted university before, you could be eligible to apply for university next year as a mature-age student.
Entry is competitive and would-be students must complete an approved preparation course.
TAFE also has support for mature-age students and gives recognition for experience and prior learning. This means modules or units can be ticked off before being started.
Those looking to go back to university for a second time will be glad to know that recent changes to legislation means they may be eligible to receive government assistance (Youth Allowance for under 25s, Austudy for 25-year-olds and up) for some Masters courses.
